FF TV Features Modern Approaches to Effective Headache Management

February 17, 2026

Medicine describes approximately 300 types of headache. Certain types can serve as warning signs of serious conditions—for instance: onset after age 50, pain altering its location and nature, “thunderclap headache,” and others.

Modern approaches to managing various conditions were presented on FF TV, the Foundation’s RuTube channel, by Emil Davidovich Isagulyan — neurosurgeon, pain specialist (algologist), and Senior Researcher at the Burdenko National Medical Research Center for Neurosurgery.

Key topics covered in the episode include: prerequisites and types of headache; preventing episodic pain from progressing to chronic pain; essential diagnostic tests to identify the root cause of headaches; non-obvious triggers; and effective medications and therapies.

In particular, the expert highlighted the availability of preventive treatment for migraines. Medications such as monoclonal antibodies and gepants block the CGRP protein or its receptors, which represent a key factor in migraine pathogenesis. Botulinum toxin therapy also delivers solid outcomes.

Emil Isagulyan also outlined conditions that warrant consulting a pain specialist (algologist). In several instances, this specialist applies specialized, lesser-known treatment modalities.

— There is a method — superficial temporal artery ligation — that is little known and rarely practiced. Suppose a person experiences throbbing pain in the temporal region and notices that manually compressing the area relieves the pain, while releasing it causes the pain to return. If this effect is reproducible, the segment of this artery can simply be surgically excised and removed, permanently ending the pain. However, certain limitations apply.

The physician explained the relationship between the condition of neck vessels, bite alignment, hormonal balance, and headaches, and introduced a modern therapeutic approach — neuromodulation.

Weekly FF TV episodes are designed for anyone proactive about taking charge of their health.
